Mid-Year Review: Warrior Mode

This month, I found myself crawling through mud under barbed wire at my first Spartan Race in three years. What got me to the finish line wasn’t just physical training, it was the deep well of mental resilience you draw upon when faced with a daunting challenge.

The race mantra could have been pulled directly from a startup strategy meeting: "It will hurt. It will take time. It will require dedication," but ultimately, "it will have been worth it!"

Anyone who has navigated a fundraising rollercoaster or found innovative ways to extend a cash runway in a small business knows that feeling of uncertainty and immense pressure. In business, as in an obstacle course, the toughest challenges are often won in the "mind", with a resilient mindset and a clear strategy.

That warrior mindset is precisely what we need as we cross the halfway mark for 2025. Now is the time to channel that focus into a mid-year financial review to ensure a strong, strategic finish to the year. It’s a critical opportunity to pause, assess, and pivot with intention. While it can feel daunting, avoiding it is not an option for sustainable growth.

Mid-Year Review Checklist:

✅ Assess Your Financials: Get brutally honest. How do your actual results compare to your initial budget and forecast? Where are the gaps?

✅Review Your Strategic Goals: We’re seeing unprecedented amounts of global market volatility and uncertainty. Are the targets you set in January still the right ones?

✅Re-allocate Resources: Where can you strategically double down? What initiatives are no longer serving your primary goal?

This is where you uncover hidden value. Are there services your customers love that could be expanded or monetised? Facing the cold reality in the numbers isn't always comfortable, but growth rarely happens in the comfort zone. It’s time to activate your warrior mode and set your business up for a powerful finish to the year.
